Measures

When a person has grown tired of giving and being open, and trying to communicate, I guess it is always good to remember this:
Be merciful, just as (also) your Father is merciful. Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you. Luke 6,36-38
Easier said than done though. How does one go about doing this, without fearing being put off, brushed aside, ignored, laughed at, or disappointed? And how does one get past the tangled roots and branches of unsaid things, and misunderstandings and push through the pain of misconceived notions to reach out again?

It's so much easier to just wrap oneself in a cocoon to avoid being hurt.
